Deleting your Booking account is a straightforward process, but it has permanent consequences you should be aware of before you start. If you no longer use the platform or want to protect your personal data, this guide walks you through every step — for both personal and business accounts. And if you’re concerned about the data Booking holds on you, you have rights under the UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018, enforced by the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office), to request erasure of your personal data.

What is Booking?

If you’ve ever searched for accommodation online, you’ve almost certainly come across Booking. It’s one of the world’s most popular travel platforms, connecting travellers with hotels, apartments, and other lodging options.

Booking is an online service that aggregates accommodation listings from properties around the world, making it easy for travellers to compare options, read reviews, and book a stay in any location.

Hotels and property owners use the platform to promote their services to a global audience. Travellers searching for a place to stay in a specific city can browse listings, check availability, and book directly through Booking — all in one place.

How Booking works for property owners

Booking offers a commission-based model for property owners. They can list their properties on the platform at no upfront cost — Booking only charges a commission when a booking is completed and payment is received.

This means property owners don’t pay anything unless they actually generate revenue through the platform.

One clear advantage for owners is that they retain full control over their pricing. Booking does not set or impose rates; the price agreed between the property owner and the guest is entirely up to the owner.

Booking plays no part in the financial transaction itself, so you can adjust your rates freely to stay competitive in your market. At the end of each month, Booking sends an invoice for the commission on confirmed stays.

Booking uses a commission structure that varies by country and property type. It’s worth reviewing the current rates before you list, so you know exactly what to expect. The rule is simple: if you make no sales, you pay no commission.

What to consider before deleting your Booking account

Deleting your Booking account is a permanent action. Before you proceed, there are several things you should take into account.

First, deleting your account removes all profile information, including your login credentials — you will not be able to sign back in with that account once it has been deleted.

Any active reservations or published listings will also be lost. If you have an open booking or a live listing at the time of deletion, both will be permanently removed along with the account.

Account deletion is irreversible. Once done, there is no way to recover your data or restore the account, so make sure you’ve considered all the implications before going ahead.

Even though all account data is removed automatically upon deletion, it’s a good idea to manually remove any saved payment details from your profile beforehand as an extra precaution.

Steps to delete a Booking account

Deleting a Booking account is fairly simple. Start by logging in to Booking on their website using the account you want to remove. Note: only administrators can delete users from a business account via the Administration portal. Follow these steps:

Step 1: In the menu, go to Administration > Manage team

Step 2: On the profile you want to remove, click Edit

Step 3: Click DELETE

Step 4: Check the box and click “Delete

Note:

Once a user has been successfully deleted, the following happens:

  • When the deleted user next logs in, they will not be redirected to the business account — they will need to log in to their personal account instead
  • The user profile will be deactivated in the business account
  • The user profile will no longer appear in the Administration portal or the business account
  • Bookings made by the deleted user will remain on the business account

Because business accounts must always have at least one profile, you cannot delete your own profile if it is the only one on the account. In that case, you will need to delete the entire Booking.com for Business account. Here you can find out how to delete your Booking.com for Business account.

Frequently Asked Questions about deleting a Booking account

Can I recover my Booking account after deleting it?

No. Deleting your Booking account is permanent and irreversible. Once the account is removed, all associated data — including reservations, personal details, and payment information — is deleted and cannot be recovered. If you’re unsure, consider temporarily deactivating the account or simply logging out instead.

What happens to my active reservations when I delete my account?

Any active or upcoming reservations linked to your account will be lost when you delete it. Before proceeding, make sure you cancel or complete any open bookings to avoid issues with accommodation providers or pending charges.

Do I need to remove my payment details before deleting the account?

While Booking removes your data automatically upon account deletion, it’s strongly recommended to manually delete any saved credit or debit card details beforehand. This reduces any risk linked to data handling during the deletion process.

What are my rights regarding personal data under UK law?

Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to request the erasure of your personal data (the “right to be forgotten”). Booking, as a data controller operating in the UK, is required to comply with legitimate erasure requests. If you believe your data has not been properly deleted, you can file a complaint with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) at ico.org.uk.

Can I delete a user from a Booking business account?

Yes, but only account administrators have permission to remove users from a business account. Follow the steps above: go to Administration → Manage team, find the profile, click Edit, then Delete. Keep in mind that a business account must always retain at least one active profile.

What if I want to delete my Booking.com for Business account entirely?

If your profile is the only one on a business account, you cannot delete just your user — you need to delete the entire Booking.com for Business account. You can find the official instructions for doing so directly on the Booking.com for Business Help Centre.
